The co-existence of low earth orbit (LEO) and geo-stationary satellite orbit (GSO) satellites in shared frequency bands might compromise the legacy GSO systems. In response to this concern, we propose a beamforming scheme aimed at facilitating spectrum sharing between LEO and GSO networks. The proposed scheme addresses the critical challenge of mitigating interference caused by LEO satellites to GSO receiver systems through the application of on-board beamforming techniques assuming a phased array antenna. By creating nulls in the directions of GSO receivers, the proposed method effectively reduces the interference-to-noise ratio (INR) experienced by the ground GSO receivers. The results of our study highlight the importance of interference mitigation with beamforming, enabling the seamless co-existence and improved spectrum utilization between GSO systems and LEO satellite constellations.
