An all-fiber Er chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system based on a large-mode-area (LMA) amplifier delivering 220 nJ, 1.10 ps, linearly-polarized pulses is reported. The system is based on pulse stretching in a nonlinearly-chirped fiber Bragg grating and compression in a photonic band gap fibers. The dispersion of the PBGF was measured precisely and matched with a nonlinearly-chirped FBG stretcher. Such system architecture is scalable to pulse energies close to the PBGF nonlinearity limit (>10 /spl mu/J estimate) with improved PBGFs.
