Ship-ship or ship-bridge collision accidents are easy to occur when ships pass through the inland bridge areas waterway. Simulation based research on traffic flows in bridge areas waterway helps to reduce the accidents. In this paper, historical data about vessel traffic flow in bridge areas waterway has been collected and probability distributions of attributions of vessel traffic flows are obtained by analyzing the data. Then a route model of traffic flows and a motion model of vessels are presented. A generating algorithm of vessel traffic flows is also proposed and the algorithm is implemented using C++ programming language. Comparing the simulation data with actual data shows that the simulation modes and their algorithm are valid.
