Most digital cameras use a color filter array to capture the colors of the scene and need color interpolation to generate full resolution color details. To render a full-color image, an interpolation process, commonly referred to as CFA demosaicking. A large number of demosaicking methods using a directional or adaptive color correlation have been suggested. In such conventional methods, however, there is the problem of artifacts occurring on the edges of color boundaries. In order to suppress such undesirable artifacts around line edges, the proposed method first determines line edge patterns and interpolates missing pixels along detected directions. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method produces visually pleasing images and outperforms existing demosaicking methods in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (psnr).
