The discontinuous primary (DP) and discontinuous secondary (DS) permanent magnet linear synchronous machine (DP-DS PMLSM) can be applied in various transportation applications. However, due to the DP and DS, there exist multiple end effects and coupling effects. These effects can affect the motor inductance. Therefore, an accurate inductance model is critical to the design and control of this topology motor. First, this article proposes an improved subdomain (SD) method to calculate the armature reaction field, which considers the end effects and coupling effects. Subsequently, the inductance analytical model can be derived from the magnetic field energy. Second, the inductance mathematical model of the entire motor is built using Park transformation, which includes the coupling inductance. In addition, the d-q axis inductance, flux linkage, and thrust equations considering the three-phase inductance asymmetry are also derived. Finally, a prototype is manufactured and tested. The experiment shows that the SD results agree well with the experiment results, within a 5% error. Moreover, the three-phase inductance asymmetry can be effectively suppressed by adjusting the flux barrier width.
