The intensification of climate change will cause more frequent extreme weather, such as heavy precipitation, strong wind, fog, heavy snow, freezing and so on. However, the occurrence of extreme weather will reduce the reliability of transportation system, seriously affect people’s travel, and adversely affect the regional economy along the transportation lines. Accurate mastery of road traffic meteorological information can effectively cope with the impact of extreme weather on transportation system and reduce losses. In order to improve the technical level of road area traffic meteorological information collection of trunk highways in severe cold areas, this paper takes a bridge in northern Inner Mongolia as an example, studies the road area meteorological information collection technology of national and provincial trunk highways in severe cold areas, and establishes a road area traffic meteorological monitoring and early warning system to provide data support for scientific decision-making of transportation management departments.
