Due to growing influence in medium to high power applications, multilevel inverters have seen several modifications since its first release in the late 90’s. The modification includes its different topologies, control and modulation schemes. The main objective of those modifications was to reduce the number of switching devices while obtaining a higher number of levels in the output voltage. The working of a multilevel inverter is analyzed through which seventeen level output voltage can be achieved by employing eight switching devices. This arrangement provides minimal harmonic distortion by implementing multi-carrier pulse width modulation technique.
