Energy Efficient Grid Splitting Relay Node Selection (EEGS) is proposed in this study which provides a better way to elect the relay node in comparison to the Furthest Distance (FD), Expected Progress Distance (EPD) and Bi-Directional Stable Communication (BDSC). The EEGS firstly divide the whole network into equal regions and then elect at least one relay node from each and every region on the basis of the proposed energy model whereas in BDSC it had been seen that it elects the relay node is done on the basis of the near located nodes which sometimes leads to the enhancement in the communication delay if the distance is increased. The EEGS implements the energy model and evaluate the PDR, end to end delay and hop count of the proposed network with respect to the low and high node density. The results depict that the EEGS is proficient in comparison to the FD, EPD and BDSC. EEGS improves the packet delivery ratio of the network and decreases the end-to-end delay.
