The regenerative braking system (RBS) contributes to reducing fuel consumption of Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). There are some factors affecting the energy recovery efficiency of the RBS such as the vehicle speed at the beginning of the braking process; regenerative braking duration; Stage of Charge (SOC); charging current and regenerative braking force distribution control algorithm. This study will analyze and experimentally evaluate the influence of these parameters on the fuel consumption of HEV. Experiments were carried out on Toyota Cross with data collection devices to measure high voltage, charging current, SOC coefficient, speed, and acceleration during the vehicle's operation on 3 different types of road conditions including urban, highway, and suburban areas. The data collected from the experiment shows that the actual fuel consumption of the vehicle is from about 5.5 to 5.9 [liters / 100km] depending on road and driving conditions. This research result will be fundamentally for research on optimization of the regenerative braking force distribution to improve energy recovery efficiency and stability of RBS in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
