Doppler radar navigators have been used by the military services of the USA, Great Britain, Canada and Australia since 1955. The first applications were in long range bombers and transport aircraft followed by use in fighters and Helicopters. The complete Doppler navigation system has two major components of error namely Doppler radar velocity error and the heading reference error. In this paper an attempt is made to discuss theory of error in Doppler navigation and correlate experimental flight test data with theoretical treatment. Experimental data gathered from Doppler system fitted on Helicopter is used to develop mathematical model for doppler navigation error. This model is validated using experimental flight test data.
