We have introduced a novel technique to reduce the influence of internal backreflections on the sensitivity of interferometric fiber sensors based on frequency modulation of the source. The technique was experimentally tested and showed a reduction of 30 dB of the residual signal in the case of a single backreflection. It also appears that multiple backreflections can be dealt with by a multiplicity of modulation frequencies.
