The AN/AWS-2 Rapid Airborne Mine Clearance System (RAMICS) is currently under development to neutralize sea mines from an MH-60S helicopter for the United States Navy. RAMICS provides a new capability to the Navy and reduces the need for Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel to neutralize floating/moored sea mines. RAMICS utilizes a lidar to reacquire surface and subsurface mines and mine-like objects. The targeting subsystem trains a MK44 Bushmaster 30mm gun to the target. Once the firing solution is achieved and target confirmed, the operator fires the gun and neutralization is achieved by deflagration, sinking, or detonation of the target. This will provide a quick method of clearing threat mines and confirming neutralizations.
