Four-wave mixing (FWM) is the most serious fiber nonlinearity in long-haul multichannel optical systems employing dispersion-shifted fiber. To reduce the crosstalk due to FWM, a general suboptimum unequally spaced channel allocation technique is proposed and analyzed.
