This article studies the deadbeat predictive current control (DPCC) for the current-source-inverter-fed high-speed permanent magnet synchronous machine (HSPMSM) drive. Since the ac filter capacitors increase the order of the control system, the traditional two-step-reaching DPCC will lead to motor current oscillations due to the excessive current change rate. To deal with this problem, a novel three-step-reaching DPCC is proposed to reduce the current change rate, and necessary constraints are set to ensure the control system can enter steady states. Detailed theoretical analysis is performed to explore the stability, digital implementation, and control characteristics of the proposed three-step-reaching DPCC. Furthermore, in the adopted system state space, the filter capacitor voltage is canceled through mathematical operations, thus the proposed DPCC can eliminate the capacitor voltage sampling. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments.
