The depletion of fossil fuels and environmental damage have led to research into alternative energy sources, particularly Electric Vehicles (EVs). Smart cities and EVs have gained popularity, necessitating the establishment of charging stations. The effectiveness of charging systems is significantly influenced by drivers’ actions, especially the duration of a charge. This research study focuses on the proper placement and administration of charging stations, considering residential travel patterns, self-interested charging behavior, traffic congestion, and charging station operating costs. This study presents a scalable solution using non-convex mixed integer optimization, demonstrating its scalability and efficacy. The proposed methodology can save society over 10% of the costs associated with traditional methods.
