Virtual marshalling technology provides convenience for the efficient use of resources and the accurate allocation of passenger and vehicle flow in the urban rail transit line network, which is of great significance for improving the operation of urban rail transit. This paper introduces the principle characteristics of virtual marshalling and the organization mode of urban rail transit based on this technology, compares and analyzes the operation status and efficiency of urban rail transit line network vehicles under the application of virtual marshalling technology and the current traditional operation, and takes a section of Tianjin Metro Line 5 as an example for case analysis. The results show that the virtual marshalling technology can effectively reduce the empty load of the vehicle, greatly improve the transportation efficiency, improve the punctuality and reliability of the train, and make the train operation plan more flexible under the condition of overflight. Under the condition of no crossing, the virtual marshalling technology increases the waiting time of some passengers and slightly reduces the service level, but shortens the travel time of most passengers and reduces the average travel time, which effectively improves the transportation efficiency.
