Vehicles today come with well-equipped sensors, onboard units, and various processing, and communication capabilities thanks to the automobile industry’s rapid advancements. This development led to the creation of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks(VANETs). VANETs are regarded as a particular kind of mobile ad hoc network that has the potential to influence decisions that could determine a person’s life or death by foreseeing and assisting drivers and other people regarding road safety and other critical conditions. Due to their infrastructure, VANETs are prone to various security challenges such as attacks and privacy breaches. The vehicular network provides infotainment services and enhances the efficiency of Intelligent Transport Systems. VANETs are a crucial component of ITS. They are occasionally referred to as “intelligent transportation networks” or “systems.". This survey aims to study vehicular ad hoc networks and examine various threats and security approaches to increase the throughput of VANETs.
