The characteristics of a novel modular switched reluctance generator (MSRG) are presented in this paper. Firstly, the structure of the three-phase, 6/4 poles MSRG and its operation principle are described. Secondly, the simulation model of MSRG system based on special excitation circuit is developed for the sake of studying the relationships between the output voltage/power and conduction angle, excitation voltage and speed after analyzing the factors affecting the output power. Finally, an experimental platform is built and the output voltage and phase current are measured under different excitation voltage. The results show a good consistency with theories.
