Code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques are attractive because they provide virtual circuits by encoding the data bits with the destination address. This gives the network designer added flexibility to increase the system throughput and/or to reduce data latency. However, CDMA codes tend to be bandwidth inefficient unless multiple attributes are used. We show by analysis, design, and measurements that matrix codes are suitable multiple attribute codes which readily permit ultradense, switchable, gigabit networks.<>
