This paper demonstrates a setup and test procedure to determine soft magnetic properties of toroid shaped specimen in order to overcome some restrictions of the Epstein frame. Next to a solution to the most prominent difficulties with toroids, the winding effort and the reproducibility, a feedforward control strategy based on a novel hysteresis model is proposed. This method promises faster and more reliable material tests. Afterwards, the new 3D screen printing technology is introduced anticipating magnificent impulses on the production of electrical machines. First printed samples were characterized via the presented test method. Both developments will enable designers to better specify, predict and adopt soft magnetic material as well as overcome some conventional constraints.
