DC power distribution systems are growing in popularity in applications such as electric ships and hybrid electric vehicles. Stability is a crucial aspect in the design of such systems. Generalized immittance based stability analysis is an established method used in addressing stability considerations. In this work, two improvements to this approach are proposed. The first refinement deals with modifying the existing method of obtaining generalized immittances to avoid artificial conservativeness in the design. The second improvement involves modifying the Nyquist contour to allow a damping factor specification for system eigenvalues. A source-load system consisting of a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with an active rectifier as a source and a buck-converter drawing constant power as a load is analyzed using the improved methods.
