The quantity of traffic that moves between various network components, such as switches and routers, is calculated through a technique called traffic matrix (TM) estimation. Traffic Matrix(TM) estimation is a significant part of traffic engineering as it is used for diagnosing and managing network congestion. Internet usage is at its peak and the services required are increasing daily, so the traffic is also increasing. To deliver good and appropriate services estimation of traffic is needed. The article examines the Traffic Matrix Estimation (TME) problem and its relevance to various network types. The TME is one of the major issues that must be resolved in various fields. Some of them are discussed here in this article. TME varies from network to network so the practices also vary from one another to obtain TM. The article surveys the various approaches and practices for estimating the TM among different types of networks. The algorithms in each approach are depicted and the metrics for performance calculation are described clearly for understanding. finally, the application of Traffic matrix estimation and their techniques for multiple networks are analyzed and presented.
