The paper reports on the development of a robust and compact photonic proximity sensor for munition applications. The technologies exploited in the optical fuze design are vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs), integrated resonant cavity photodetectors (RCPD) and diffractive micro-optics. This work will culminate in a robust, fully integrated, component design suitable for proximity fuzing applications.
