In this work, we theoretically evaluated the upper bound on the received optical power (ROP) at the baseband carrier sense circuits (BCSC) and validated the results with experiment across four values of BCSC bandwidth, all showing good agreement. Results indicate that for our BCSC implementation, a high bandwidth increases the upper bound on the ROP, but the highest achievable upper bound value is constrain by the design of the front-end. A front-end transimpedance amplifier with low saturation recovery time is desirable to maximize the highest achievable upper bound on the ROP. Our theoretical model thus provides an effective tool for the design of baseband optical carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks where maximum utilization of available transmission bandwidth is required.
