In this paper, we present the design of a controller for the longitudinal dynamics of an aircraft when the primary control, that of the elevator is stuck. It is shown that control input on thrust alone can be used to regulate the flight path angle while maintaining system stability. Finally, we examine the effect of the magnitude of failure and time used for detection and identification in the presence of system nonlinearities.
