A series of Raman lasers based on BaWO/sub 4/ and Ba(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ crystals were developed and optimized. Efficient Stokes shifted oscillations in mid IR spectral range as far as 2.2 /spl mu/m were obtained with efficiency up to 10%. New methods of active Cr/sup 2+/ doped crystals synthesis were developed. Efficient oscillations at 1.5 /spl mu/m and 1.8 /spl mu/m which are within absorption line of Cr/sup 2+/ ions were used to pump ZnSe:Cr/sup 2+/ (1.53 /spl mu/m and 1.78 /spl mu/m) and CdSe:Cr/sup 2+/ (1.78 /spl mu/m) lasers. Oscillations in mid IR spectral range (2.5-2.7 /spl mu/m) were obtained with oscillation threshold of several hundred micro Joules and slope efficiency up to 23%.
New mid IR (1.5-2.2 /spl mu/m) Raman lasers based on barium tungstate and barium nitrate crystals for pumping of pulsed mid IR (2.5-2.7 /spl mu/m) tunable ZnSe:Cr/sup 2+/ and CdSe:Cr/sup 2+/ lasers
