Electric vehicles such as electric motorcycle (or electric scooters) and electric vehicle are two/or three and four wheels vehicles propelled by electric motors powered by stored electricity in batteries. Fully electric vehicles have completely eliminated combustion engine with the use of fuel oil for propulsion. So far, permanent magnet direct current motor (PMDC), Interior permanent magnet motor (IPM) and permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) have been developed and installed in scooters for propulsion. Of all these motors, PMSM has exhibited the highest output torque of 110 Nm and power output of 6000W. Construction of PMSM comprised segmented stator having all stator teeth wound. Meanwhile, knowing the significance of torque as acceleration sustainer and inertia overcomer, this torque is not capable for long distance travels, therefore, PMSM is low and thus, not suitable. Furthermore, assembly of PMSM lacks mechanical strength for speed application rising from surface PM rotating rotor. To overcome the problems of PMSM, a segmented outer rotor permanent magnet flux switching motor (SOR-PMFSM) is presented for in-wheel high torque. 2D-FEA by JMAG Software ver. 14 is utilized in designing and also analyzing motor's performances in terms of average torque. Analysis and result showed that torque of the presented motor is 263.5 Nm or 2.4 times higher than PMSM thus, projecting SOR-PMFSM a better candidate for in-wheel vehicle propulsion.
