In the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the mechanism of container generation was analyzed based on the current situation of each province. The multi-factor dynamic generation coefficient method was used to predict the total amount of container generation in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and then the distribution mechanism of container transportation was analyzed to get the combined volume of container transportation. The results show that the prediction method is reliable and effective, which can support for the market demand analysis of rail-sea intermodal transportation in China.
