For optimal performance, routing algorithms for energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks must take into account the stochastic nature of both energy harvest availability and traffic. In this work, we propose a routing algorithm based on the semi-Markov decision process that considers exponential arrival of energy harvest and traffic packets. The algorithm selects routes that are probabilistically optimal over an infinite horizon. We show that the scheme achieves a longer network lifetime, defined as the total time in which no node is depleted, when compared to routing algorithms that make routing decisions based only on a short prediction horizon.
