Summary form only given. Atmospheric water vapor profile measurements are very important for understanding the Earth radiation budget and the formation of hurricanes. NASA Langley Research Center has been developing a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) system for this purpose. The new system consists of three main circuits which include a silicon avalanche photodiode (APD) detector, with its built in current to voltage amplifier and thermoelectric cooler.
