This paper studies the impact of vehicle traffic density on data rate and link lifetime over vehicle Ad-hoc network via vehicle-to-vehicle connection in a highway, two routing protocols are used and compared, first is the optimized link state routing protocol which proactively controls sending data by choosing multipoint relay nodes to connect vehicles in the network, second is adaptive cooperative routing protocol that efficiently controls sending data by choosing best connection depending on cooperation criteria between nodes in the vehicle ad-hoc network. Two key performance indicators are chosen to compare the performance of the two routing protocols, data rate is used to calculate the vehicle-to-vehicle channel ability to transfer data in certain time, link stability or link lifetime measures the estimated link lifetime based on relative velocities between vehicles and vehicle coverage range.
