This paper presents the indirect vector control for an induction motor in an electric vehicle propulsion system using a predictive controller. This study focuses on fast and accurate speed responses for the speed control of electric vehicles. Therefore, the digital time delay of indirect vector control is considered. The predictive controller design relies on a mathematical model of the induction motor combined with indirect vector control method. The MATLAB/Simulink program validated and confirmed the speed control performance. The simulation result demonstrates that the proposed predictive controller reduces the digital time delay in control systems, which causes a fast and accurate speed response for the speed control of electric vehicles. Consequently, the proposed predictive controller is suitable for speed control in electric vehicles that constantly change speeds.
