The capabilities of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and the maximum entropy method (MEM) in resolving closely spaced optical point targets are compared using Monte Carlo simulation results for two different examples. It is found that the MEM is very sensitive to the noise and that the MLE performs better than the MEM in both examples.
