The transmission characteristics of a high-peak-power ultrashort pulse through the perfluorinated (PF) polymer-based GI polymer optical fiber (POF) have been evaluated. The nonlinear refractive index of the PF polymer-based POF is estimated. The self phase modulation is experimentally compared to the SiO/sub 2/ GI fiber. As a result of the optical characteristics of this fiber which exhibit low optical attenuation in the near infrared region, small material dispersion, large core size and flexibility, the PF polymer-based POF has large potential in a high peak power laser pulse delivery system.
