This paper discusses the high-order harmonic generation (HOHG) at surface of dense matter (SDM) and concentrates on recent results obtained with high contrast ratio femtosecond laser driving pulses. It is shown that by the interaction of light with relativistic free electrons, relativistic non-linear optics has become achievable.
