This article proposes a novel hybrid magnetic circuit dual-variable flux memory machine (HMC-D-VFMM) with an enhanced flux regulation (FR) range. By reasonably utilizing two types of variable flux, namely, variable permanent magnet (PM) flux and variable leakage flux, the FR range of the machine can be effectively expanded without any extra cost. Simultaneously, the high torque and load demagnetization withstand (LDW) capability can also be achieved. The feasibility and superiority of the proposed design are theoretically analyzed and demonstrated by comparing the magnetic circuits of the proposed machine and a conventional HMC-VFMM. The electromagnetic characteristics of the two machines under different magnetization states (MSs) are comprehensively analyzed and compared by the finite element (FE) method. Finally, an HMC-D-VFMM prototype is manufactured and tested. Experimental results validate the feasibility of the proposed design.
