This paper investigates a variable speed constant frequency power generation system based on induction generator for a three-phase four wire system in more electric aircraft (MEA) applications. In the proposed scheme, the induction generator is driven by the shaft of an engine. The generator output is connected to an active rectifier with a dc link capacitor. The engine also drives a permanent magnet generator (PMG), the output of which initially charges the dc link capacitor to the desired voltage level. The dc voltage is converted to constant frequency constant amplitude ac voltage for three-phase four-wire loads of the aircraft using a four-leg inverter. In this paper, a flux optimization-based vector control strategy for the induction generator with power factor improvement is investigated. Also, the overload capability and transient performance of the induction generator in a MEA architecture is presented.
