Wireless power transfer (WPT) system-based charging for an electric vehicle (EV) is becoming popular among EV industries and researchers because of its attractive features. However, the WPT technology has many problems in concern with power transfer efficiency (PTE). Mainly PTE is affected by lateral and angular misalignment. In this paper novel alignment strategy for addressing the misalignment issue between the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) coil. The proposed sensor-based positioning system aligns the Tx coil by tilting using stepper motor which is controlled by a controller based on the RF sensor signal output. Also, the coil systems were modelled and analysed theoretically using ANSYS-Maxwell simulation. The proposed positioning system is implemented and results were verified with developed proto type electric bike. Which transfer the power wirelessly and charges the 16Ah, 24V Li-ion battery at an efficiency of 93.4%
