This paper presents the results of the Joint Expeditionary Digital Information (JEDI) system demonstration on the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS). Developed by Booz/spl middot/Allen & Hamilton, the JEDI system with Iridium represents an off-the-shelf system that uses Windows CE based software that is capable of developing, exchanging, and displaying standard US Army call-for-fire messages. Together with Joint STARS, JEDI can shorten the time-critical targeting kill chain response. The demonstration involved one day of ground tests followed by one flight test mission with the Joint STARS test aircraft. All test objectives were met. The JEDI system-provides an effective way of transmitting small files (formatted text messages) through a commercial satellite network with its full duplex, 2400-baud rate capability in a non-secured mode. The Requirements Review Board for Joint STARS will evaluate JEDI and let it compete with other requirements for funding.
