Applications such as target recognition from remote sensed imagery may benefit from the fusion of traditional high resolution panchromatic or color images with multispectral or hyperspectral image cubes. A method for such image fusion proposed by Munechika and evaluated on synthetic imagery by Robinson, Gross and Schott is evaluated here using real imagery. A high-resolution RGB photograph is used to enhance a Hymap image cube for a scene taken over Mobile, Alabama. It is concluded that the spatial information is sharpened significantly, that spectral fidelity is preserved in the sharpening process, and that the fused imagery is likely to be beneficial in target recognition applications.
