Summary form only given. A nonlinear joint transform correlator (JTC) architecture can be used to verify the authenticity of the card. The complex mask and an image of a corresponding reference phase mask are illuminated by coherent light in the input plane of a JTC. The interference between the Fourier transforms of the two input images is produced by a lens and is square-law detected to obtain the joint power spectrum which is inverse Fourier transformed to produce the correlation between the input mask and the reference mask.
