Prospect theory (PT) as non-expected utility theories has been widely used in the field of psychology and behavioral economics. There have been many travel choice behavior studies which involved PT to represent traveler behavior in recent years. PT can reflect the individual's subjective perception of gains and losses which make PT become popular in travel choice studies. In order to have a comprehensive understanding of PT, this paper reviews the development process and basic concepts of PT, and recent transportation studies involving PT, related studies can be divided into three categories according to the research content. Some recommendations for future studies are presented, including future research areas and applicability of parameters.
