This paper describes a physical interface for short distance electrical links that are typically used to link parallel optical modules into the system. This interface, called minimal power link (MPL), significantly reduces power consumption by reducing the transmit signal strength and adopting a novel electrical receiver circuit. In addition, MPL interface reduces electromagnetic emissions leading to reduced EMI - an important consideration in densely packaged server platforms.
