Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has become most noticeable and popular power converter technology suitable for high/medium-power drive system applications. It possesses unique advantages like modularity in structure, better harmonic performances, redundancy etc. During operational condition of MMC, inevitable flow of circulating currents through its each arm and which in turn leads to power losses, rise in the ratings of the devices in the overall converter system. Various circulating current suppression methods are studied by the researchers for the effective reduction in rms values and mitigation of harmonics contents in circulating currents. In the paper describes the comparative analysis of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of different control strategies for the MMC circulating current control in drive system for efficient operation. MATLAB Simulation Studies are carried out for the various control approaches for circulating current strategies for MMC.
