Summary form only given. Contactless range finders are currently used for measuring distance and velocity in various applications fields. Depending on range and required accuracy different principles are applied. We present the principle of the FMCW laser range finder. A lens collimates the emitted laser beam and focuses the diffused light onto the microchip cavity. The optical frequency sweep is achieved by an electro-optic crystal directly stuck on the Nd:YAG material. The beat frequencies intensity are detected by a PIN photodiode.
