Pantograph-catenary (PAC) temperature rise is an increasingly common and prominent phenomenon in electrified vehicle and transportation systems, especially with the increase in vehicle speed. To address this issue, an extended contact wire temperature rise model of electric contact aiming at electrified vehicle's lifting or dropping pantograph (LDP) is presented in this paper. First, the behaviors of PAC double-slide electric contact are investigated, such as PAC electric contact characteristic, thermal flow source, and influence factors. Second, based on the thermal power balance, a contact wire thermal distribution model for static double-point electric contact considering electrified vehicle's LDP is deduced. The corresponding initial and boundary conditions are considered in this model. Then, the noncontact infrared temperature measurement for current-carrying contact wire is carried out to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed thermal distribution model. Finally, the comparisons between numerical computations and experimental tests are performed. The results show that the proposed model is feasible for determining and revealing the temperature rise variations and the electric contact irregularities of contact wire considering LDP in electrified vehicle and transportation systems.
