In order to further ensure the safety of shipping in China’s neighbouring waters, this study investigates crawling, preprocessing and behavioural analysis of fishing vessel trajectory data based on AIS vessel data in the Yellow Sea area. The aim is to identify fishing vessel operation patterns and merchant vessel route distribution patterns. Through speed screening, thermal distribution map construction and trajectory clustering analysis, the behavioural patterns of fishing vessels were identified, and the clustering characteristics of merchant vessels’ transoceanic voyage trajectories were analysed. The results of the study demonstrate that fishing behaviour can be screened by means of sailing speed screening of fishing vessel trajectories, and the clustering of merchant vessel trajectories reveals the spatial distribution pattern of major routes. This study provides data-driven technical support for the regulation of fisheries and the safety of shipping in the sea area.
