Management of an anomalous driving behavior is as important as its detection. Unless properly managed and mitigated, such anomalies may jeopardize the safety of the people and vehicles nearby and may also cause frustrating traffic jams in highly dense urban roads. In this paper, we propose an anomaly management scheme that identifies the anomalous drivers as well as the vehicles affected by them. This scheme then introduces an Anomaly Severity Index (ASI) that determines the severity of the impact caused by such anomalous drivers and deploys holistic mitigation strategies to dampen the impact on the surrounding vehicles. The scheme leverages the increasing number of smart vehicles on the road. Preliminary experiments conducted on realistic traffic data of I-66 in Arlington, Virginia indicate that the proposed management scheme can make our road networks up to ten times safer from the threats of the anomalous driving elements.
