With the maturity of autonomous driving technology, the situation of human-driven vehicles (HDVs) and Connected-Automated vehicles (CAVs) on the road at the same time will exist for a long time. Due to the huge difference in lane-change behavior between CAVs and HDVs, it is important to explore the lane-change characteristics of heterogeneous traffic flows. Based on the NGSIM dataset, the following models and lane change models are calibrated by SUMO simulation software, the traffic flow with different market penetration rate (MPR) is simulated, and finally the simulation results of heterogeneous traffic flow are analyzed and evaluated. The study finds that CAVs have a greater impact on improving the efficiency of traffic flow, and the number of lane changes has also increased, and the standardization of lane changing has been improved. With the changes in MPR, the potential danger points of heterogeneous traffic flow will change, and the safety management strategy of highways should also be adjusted accordingly.
