RTCA DO-254, "Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware," outlines an approach for providing design assurance confidence for functions of a range of design assurance levels. In order to decompose the hardware functions, DO-254 provides a brief overview of Functional Failure Path Analysis (FFPA) but is limited in detail and provides no examples. This paper presents a detailed explanation of FFPA and illustrates it with a representative example.
